Robert Kraft serves as the chairman and chief executive officer of the Kraft Group. The company has a number of business lines, including sports, paper and packaging, real estate, and an equity portfolio. NFL’S New England Patriots and MLS’s New England revolution are the two investments for which the Kraft Group is well known. Robert Kraft also serves as director at Boston’s Federal Reserve Bank and Viacom. Kraft also serves as the trustee and trustee emeritus of Boston College and Columbia University, respectively. Robert is a Massachusetts native and an alumnus of Columbia University.
Besides Columbia University, Robert Kraft also studied at Harvard, earning an MBA. At Columbia, Kraft played football in the lightweight division and has long been passionate about the sport. Growing up, the seasoned investor was a Giants fan until his eventual switch to the Patriots. Robert’s professional journey kicked off at Rand-Whitney Group, a packaging company based in Worcester.
He founded International Forest Products in 1972. The company trades in actual paper products. The entities combined form the biggest privately-run packaging and paper organizations in the States. For quite a while, Forest Products has dominated the import/export domain, became a major player and ranked among the top 100 trading organizations.
Kraft began taking interest and investing in the entertainment industry in the 80S. In 1986, he played a huge role in the acquisition of WNEV-TV, an affiliate of CBS by a minority group. Afterward, Kraft furthered his investment in entertainment by buying several Boston-based radio stations.
Since the Patriots moved to Schaefer Stadium in 1971, Kraft has always had a season ticket. His 1985 purchase of an option adjacent to the stadium was the initial step in the club’s ownership a decade later.
