Robert Kraft

Robert Kraft (born June 5, 1941, in Brookline, Massachusetts) is an American businessman who is the Chairman. Chief Executive Officer of The Kraft Group, Inc. Robert Kraft is the owner of the New England Patriots of the National Football League and a former football player. They played in college at the University of Notre Dame. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 8, 2009.

Kraft was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, to a family with deep roots in Boston’s North End. His great-grandfather, Daniel J. “Dan” Kraft, owned a local company that manufactured ice cream and candies; his grandfather, Joseph A. “Joe” Kraft, founded and operated a construction company; and his father, Robert S. Kraft Sr., was president of Denny’s Restaurant Corp., which he founded with his brother Louis Bauer (Joseph Baur). Robert’s sister Marilyn is married to Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., who also has been involved in the sports business as owner of the San Francisco 49ers and co-owner of Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies until 2005 when he sold a majority stake to Comcast Spectacor (and later sold all but two percent).

Robert Kraft attended Brookline High School, where he played football for four years as an offensive lineman before being drafted by the American Football League’s Buffalo Bills and the NFL’s Washington Redskins. He spent one year with Buffalo before being traded to Washington for tight-end Charley Taylor. He played two seasons in Washington, mostly on special teams as a linebacker.

Robert Kraft graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in 2011. The New England Patriots selected him with the first pick of the 1960 NFL draft. Kraft played for four seasons for the Patriots (1960–1963). Robert Kraft is one of the most successful businessmen in American sports and has been involved in many ventures that have resulted in success. Kraft is also a philanthropist that has donated large sums of money to various charities, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He is also known for his generous nature and has donated large sums to numerous celebrities, such as Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe.
