The London housing and rent crisis still rages on and while there have been a few interesting developments such as housing prices dropping slightly and the rent increase slowing a bit, it is still a difficult time for people in London who struggle to afford housing. Greycoat Real Estate has identified one pain point that is especially troublesome for renters: No-fault evictions. While there was supposed to be a renters reform bill to address this issue, things didn’t go as planned for renters.
Becoming Homeless for No Reason
One of the worst things about being a renter in London is the fact that a landlord can evict you for any reason with only two months’ notice. As a result, Greycoat adds, around 300 people in London face homelessness every single week. This led to the creation of a Renters Reform Bill, but there have been many snags along the way.
Londoners looking for relief from the Renters Reform Bill are going to be disappointed, notes Greycoat Real Estate. The bill took forever to come into existence and now that it has, it seems to go against everything that renters wanted from it. Not only does it seek to expand the ability for landlords to evict tenants, but it also provides them with several potential loopholes as well.
An Uncertain Future for Renters
Right now the Renters Reform Bill is in limbo and won’t be read until reforms to the judicial system are made. This offers little hope to renters since getting a bill that benefits their concerns seems like a long shot at this point. And when the time comes, Greycoat will be there for them.
